Three-way crossbred pigs
Three-way crossbred pigs refer to second-generation hybrid pigs produced by mating a boar of a third breed with first-generation hybrid sows selected from a two-way crossbreed. (For example, using a Duroc boar as the sire and a hybrid sow selected from a Landrace and Yorkshire cross as the dam results in DLY second-generation hybrid pigs, which are three-way crossbred pigs).
Hybrid combinations of three-way crossbred (external) pigs:
1. Landrace boar × Yorkshire sow → Landrace × Yorkshire hybrid sow.
2. Yorkshire boar × Landrace sow → Yorkshire × Landrace hybrid sow.
3. Duroc boar × Landrace sow → Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire three-way crossbred (external) pig.
4. Duroc boar × Yorkshire sow → Duroc × Yorkshire × Landrace three-way crossbred (external) pig.
The above combinations 3 and 4 represent the most superior hybrid crosses in the global pig farming industry today. Their offspring exhibit strong adaptability and significant hybrid vigor.
