Shiquan Grapes
Have you heard of Shiquan Grapes from Jinshan District in Shanghai? As one of the fastest-growing industries in Jinshan in recent years, grape cultivation has seen significant improvements in both scale and technical standards, with some varieties even rivaling those of Malu Grapes from Jiading. According to Oriental Net, in order to promote the Shiquan Grape brand, expand its market influence and share, Jinshan District will focus on branding “Shiquan” this year. The grapes will be sold in unified packaging across Carrefour, Liangyou convenience stores, and supermarkets under Bailian Group. All Shiquan Grapes will also feature QR codes for traceability of origin and quality.
Shiquan Grapes are the representative brand of grapes in Jinshan District. Their production techniques and management follow strict standards, with the entire process managed according to national green food regulations. Only organic fertilizers are used, and the number of grapes per bunch is strictly controlled to ensure quality attributes such as sugar content and size.
“Compared to Malu Grapes, Jinshan Grapes are not yet as well-known, and there are fewer early-ripening varieties. However, after the end of July and early August, many varieties of Jinshan Grapes can match the taste of Malu Grapes,” said an official from the Jinshan District Agriculture Commission. Currently, Malu Grapes are priced at around 40 yuan per jin, whereas Shiquan Grapes are uniformly priced at 20 yuan per jin this year, offering a price advantage.
In recent years, the main grape varieties cultivated in Jinshan include over 10 high-quality table grape cultivars from both China and abroad, such as Kyoho, Gold Finger, Muscat Bailey A, Pione, Ruby Roman, Summer Black, and Zuipinxiang. To enhance the Jinshan Grape brand, the district has promoted grape brand integration, designating “Shiquan” as the primary brand. They have implemented a “three-pronged” brand integration strategy—“technical standardization, management traceability, and branded sales”—including unified packaging, unified external promotion, strengthened farm-supermarket collaboration, and the formulation of Shiquan Grape cultivation technical standards.
To promote the Shiquan Grape brand, Jinshan District will hold its first Shiquan Grape Festival from July 18 to October 6 this year. Seven Shiquan Grape farms in the district have undergone facility upgrades, adding sightseeing and picking areas along with public service zones. Staff have received unified training, and visitors are welcome to enjoy grape sightseeing, leisure activities, and picking. Tourists can relax under the grapevines in the summer cool while sampling a variety of fresh grapes.
