Baoyang Cucumber
The hometown of the Baoyang cucumber is the Baoshan District Vegetable Technology Extension Station, but its roots trace back to Yanghang Town. Starting in 1986, the newly established Baoshan District Vegetable Technology Extension Center began research on improving the Yanghang cucumber. After eight years of dedicated effort, a new hybrid generation of cucumber was finally developed at the Baoshan District Vegetable Technology Extension Station. It has more moisture, thicker flesh, a non-bitter stem end, and a crisp, delicious taste compared to the traditional Yanghang cucumber. During its growth, it also shows significantly enhanced disease resistance, leading to its renaming as the Baoyang cucumber.
The Baoyang cucumber also has high medicinal value—its seeds, vines, and tendrils can promote urination, reduce internal heat, soothe inflammation, and detoxify. Cucumber frost made from this variety is particularly effective in treating sore throats and tonsillitis.
