Xiaoshaoxing Chicken Congee
The chicken congee served at Xiaoshaoxing Chicken Congee Shop is an authentic Shanghai-style snack. The shop was founded in 1947 by a person from Shaoxing. Since both the founder and the main chefs were from Shaoxing, a little “Shaoxing corner” was formed here, which is why people named it “Xiaoshaoxing Chicken Congee Shop.”
Xiaoshaoxing Chicken Congee is a snack made by cooking glutinous rice congee with original chicken broth, and served with chicken meat and various seasonings. When serving the congee, the cooked chicken is cut into 3 cm pieces, each 0.6 cm wide, and arranged on a plate. The congee is ladled into a bowl, topped with chopped scallions, ginger, and chicken oil, and then served together. At this point, the congee has a yellowish-green hue while the chicken is white and shiny, making it a feast for the eyes and a great appetite booster. When tasted, the congee is sticky, smooth, and flavorful, while the chicken is tender, refreshing, and highly nutritious — the more you eat, the more delicious it becomes. This delicacy is available at Xiaoshaoxing Chicken Congee Shop in Shanghai.
