Pinggui Water Chestnuts
Water chestnuts (eleocharis dulcis) are a major agricultural product in Pinggui Management District, Hezhou City, primarily grown in towns such as Shatian and Etang. The total planting area of water chestnuts in the district is 47,500 mu, with an annual output of 95,000 tons. Water chestnuts are a health food that can be consumed both as a fruit and a vegetable. They can be eaten fresh or processed into a variety of products such as canned water chestnuts, water chestnut starch, and water chestnut cake, which have the effects of clearing heat, detoxifying, cooling blood, and lowering blood pressure. "Fanglin Water Chestnuts" are a renowned specialty of Pinggui, famous for their large size, thin skin, sweet and crisp texture, juiciness, and being free of residue. These products sell well in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Hainan, Fujian, and Southeast Asia.
In recent years, Pinggui Management District has promoted the development of the water chestnut industry by attracting foreign-funded enterprises to process and export water chestnuts and by nurturing and strengthening leading agricultural enterprises. Currently, there are agricultural leading enterprises at the autonomous region level, such as Jiabao Food Co., Ltd. (funded by Fujian investors) and Dacheng Food Co., Ltd. (funded by Taiwan investors), as well as municipal-level leading enterprise Xinglong Food Co., Ltd., all engaged in the processing and production of water chestnuts. The processed "clear-water water chestnuts" canned goods are exported to markets in Europe, America, Japan, and continue to enjoy strong demand, forming an industrial pattern of "company + base + farmer."
