Yan Shou Sticky Corn

Yan Shou Sticky Corn is a product with a Geographical Indication for Agricultural Products.

Yan Shou County has been cultivating sticky corn for over 100 years. Before the 1980s, traditional local varieties were mainly grown using backward farming methods, resulting in relatively low yields. Entering the 1990s, high-yield and high-quality hybrid varieties were promoted along with advanced cultivation techniques, which greatly improved both yield and quality. The planting scale has also expanded year by year, and currently, the cultivated area has reached over 50,000 mu. Before liberation, due to the very low standard of living, sticky corn flour was used to make bean buns and sticky cakes, which were the best festive foods during holidays and celebrations. Many food cultures and folk stories revolve around sticky corn, such as "Bean Bun Village" and "Stinky Millet," which are village names and common terms derived from sticky corn dishes. With market development and demand, processed products include a series such as fresh-keeping sticky corn and vacuum-packed sticky corn. Led by the green food enterprise Heilongjiang Yan Shou Hong Yuan Food Co., Ltd., fresh-keeping and vacuum-packed sticky corn are processed and produced. The entire process — from base to processing, storage, and sales — is automated on production lines to ensure the quality of sticky corn production.

The Yan Shou Sticky Corn planting base is located in the first heat accumulation zone of Heilongjiang Province, which is highly suitable for the growth of sticky corn. The unique geographical climate and appropriate rainfall have created the distinctive quality of Yan Shou Sticky Corn. Yan Shou Sticky Corn is a nationally protected product with a Geographical Indication for Agricultural Products.

In 2015, "Yan Shou Sticky Corn," applied for by the Yan Shou County Melon and Vegetable Association, passed the review of the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and expert evaluation, and was granted national Geographical Indication registration protection for agricultural products.
