The history of Shuangcheng Corn is one of glory and economic development for Shuangcheng. An old soldier from the “Fourth Field Army” period, Lang Chongsheng, recalled that the dried corn-based rations—corn cakes—produced in Shuangcheng served as food for the soldiers of the Fourth Field Army and contributed to the liberation of all of China. In the “Red Tourism Site” of Shuangcheng—the Memorial Museum of the “Fourth Field Army Frontline Command”—there is a photo showing a string of dried corn hanging on the wall of the kitchen. Due to corn’s high yield compared to other crops, the planting area of Shuangcheng Corn has increased year by year since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, growing from an initial figure of several thousand mu to today’s scale.
