Harbin White Pig
Abbreviated as Harbin White Pig, it is mainly distributed in the southern and central regions of Heilongjiang Province. It was developed through progressive crossbreeding of the original Harbin White Pig with the Soviet White Pig, followed by intercrossing in the second generation to fix the traits. There are currently around 100,000 breeding sows, distributed along railway lines such as the Binzhou, Binsui, and Mudanjiang-Jiamusi routes. The Harbin White Pig has strong cold resistance and good feed utilization capabilities.
(1) Breed Characteristics: The pig has all-white hair. It is relatively large in size, with a medium-sized head, upright ears, and a slightly concave face. Its back and loin are straight, and its belly is moderately sized without sagging. The hindquarters are full, the limbs are sturdy, and the overall constitution is robust. Adult boars weigh 200–250 kilograms and measure 150 centimeters in length; sows weigh 180–200 kilograms and are 140 centimeters long.
(2) Fattening Performance: At 8–9 months of age, pigs reach a weight of 90–100 kilograms, with an average daily gain of about 587 grams. The feed-to-meat ratio is 3.7:1. When slaughtered at 115 kilograms, the dressing percentage is around 75%, the loin eye area is approximately 30 square centimeters, and the hindquarter accounts for about 28% of the carcass weight. When slaughtered at 90 kilograms, the lean meat percentage is 45%–50%, and the backfat thickness is 4 centimeters.
(3) Reproductive Performance: Sows reach puberty at around 160 days of age, with a estrus cycle of about 20 days and a duration of 2–3 days. Sows are generally bred at 8 months of age when they weigh 90–100 kilograms, while boars begin breeding at 10 months old, weighing around 120 kilograms. First-litter sows average 9.4 piglets per litter, while sows after their first litter average 11.3 piglets. Litter sizes range from 6 to 7, and the average weaning weight is 13.5 kilograms.
(4) Main Features: This breed exhibits strong cold resistance and good feed adaptability. During the fattening period, it grows quickly, consumes less feed, and sows have high litter sizes and excellent maternal performance.
