Silver Carp from Hongxing Reservoir
Silver Carp from Hongxing Reservoir is a product with geographical indication.
The storage area of Hongxing Reservoir covers 366 hectares, with an average water storage capacity of 2,750 cubic meters. In 1153, Emperor Hailing (Wanyan Liang), who harbored the grand ambition of "unifying the vast lands under one script and one rule," moved the capital to Yanjing—today’s Beijing. This means that Acheng existed before Beijing became the capital through the dynasties. Since ancient times, the local people have made a living by hunting and fishing, and there’s a popular saying among them: “Beat roe deer with sticks, scoop fish with gourds.” Hongxing Reservoir is located in the middle reaches of the Maxi River. In 1958, when water conservancy projects were being developed nationwide, the government of Acheng County decided to build Hongxing Reservoir. Designed by the water conservancy department, it was completed in October 1975. The reservoir not only protects downstream fertile fields from flood threats but also ensures irrigation. For many years, the people of Acheng have relied on the reservoir’s water for drinking. Located in the eastern part of Acheng, it is currently the nearest large-scale tourist resort around Harbin that boasts distinctive landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and well-preserved ecology. The reservoir has abundant water resources, mainly fed by natural rainfall and runoff, with no pollution. Its high-quality aquatic environment is ideal for producing premium-quality silver carp. Silver carp from Hongxing Reservoir has always been in high demand, becoming a signature and iconic delicacy of Acheng District, Harbin.
