Beian City is situated in the northern central region of Heilongjiang Province, at the heart of the “Golden Triangle” formed by Harbin, Qiqihar, and Heihe, influencing more than 10 surrounding counties and cities with a population of 5 million. Beian lies in the transitional zone between the Songnen Plain and the Greater Khingan Mountains, and is part of one of the world’s three most precious black soil belts. The area boasts excellent ecology, fertile land, and vast forests, with over 4 million mu of arable land. It is a traditional hub for growing key crops such as soybeans, wheat, corn, rice, and potatoes in Heilongjiang Province, as well as an important production base for high-oil, high-protein soybeans and green specialty crops.
Soybeans are annual herbaceous plants belonging to the Fabaceae family, genus Glycine. They are an important oilseed, food, and feed crop. China is the birthplace of soybeans, and the Northeast, its main production area, is one of the most suitable regions in the world for soybean cultivation, often referred to as the golden zone for soybean farming. For this reason, soybeans have long been one of China’s most competitive agricultural products in the international market. China is the world’s fourth-largest soybean producer, and Heilongjiang Province is China’s top soybean-growing region, accounting for approximately 42% of the national output, ranking first in the country. Due to the harsh cold climate, around 30 million mu of farmland in parts of Heihe, northern Suihua, and the Sanjiang area of Heilongjiang can only be used primarily for soybean cultivation, making it essential for local farmers’ livelihoods.
