Gannan Millet is a product with geographical indication certification.

　　The "Gannan Millet" produced by the Honggu Coarse Cereals Planting Professional Cooperative in Gannan County has been awarded the Geographical Indication Certification for Agricultural Products of the People's Republic of China by the Ministry of Agriculture, making it the first farmer professional cooperative in Gannan County to receive this honor. "Gannan Millet" is also the first agricultural product from the county to be granted national geographical indication status. According to Liu Chengsheng, chairman of the cooperative and one of the province’s "Hundred Star Entrepreneurs," the successful attainment of national geographical indication protection for "Gannan Millet" will further enhance the product’s reputation and the visibility of the Gannan region. At the same time, the market competitiveness and added value of the product will also be significantly improved. All of these provide a solid foundation for implementing origin protection, standardized production, regulated management, and branded operation for the "Gannan Millet" brand.

　　Geographical Scope

　　The geographical indication protection area for Gannan Millet includes 10 towns: Gannan Town, Zhongxing Township, Changshan Township, Xingshisi Town, Xinglong Township, Baoshan Township, Pingyang Town, Dongyang Town, Jubao Town, and Chahayang Township. The geographical coordinates are between 122°54′6″–124°28′12″ east longitude and 47°25′7″–48°32′5″ north latitude. The protected geographical area spans 35,000 hectares, with a production area of 3,500 hectares and an annual output of 13,000 metric tons.

　　Product Quality Characteristics

　　1. External Sensory Features: Gannan Millet grains are full, large, round, and bright yellow in color. When steamed, the product has strong adhesive properties, good cohesiveness, pleasant taste, and does not harden upon cooling. When cooked into porridge, it shows high viscosity, good grain texture, and a long-lasting aftertaste. 2. Internal Quality Indicators: Gannan Millet is highly nutritious, containing over 10% crude protein, over 4% crude fat, amylose (as a percentage of total starch) ≤17%, amylopectin (as a percentage of total starch) >80%, gel consistency ≥115mm, and an alkali spreading value of grade 2.5 or higher. 3. The entire production process of Gannan Millet follows the non-polluting production technical regulations established by our county. Product testing meets the requirements of NY5305—2006 "Non-Polluting Food - Minor Cereals." The production environment complies with NY 5332-2006 "Non-Polluting Food - Technical Conditions for Field Crop Production Environments," and the product’s safety and hygiene indicators exceed national standards.
