Chahayang Rice

Chahayang Rice is a geographical indication certification trademark.

Established in January 1948, the Chahayang Farm is one of the earliest farms in the People's Republic of China, China’s first green food rice production base, and one of the four major irrigation areas in Northeast China. The “Chahayang” rice produced here is irrigated naturally using unpolluted water from the Nomon River. It is snow-white, translucent, soft, sweet, and of excellent quality. It sells well across China and enjoys an outstanding reputation overseas. In 1998, Chahayang Rice won the gold award at the “World Chinese Food Expo.”

Chahayang Farm was established in 1948, located at the southern foot of the Greater Khingan Mountains, on the right bank of the Nenjiang River in the Songnen Plain, within the territory of Gannan County, Heilongjiang Province. It lies between 48°05′–48°30′ north latitude and 123°56′–124°20′ east longitude. The farm covers a total area of 84,000 hectares, including 55,000 hectares of arable land, 8,000 hectares of forest, 6,000 hectares of pasture, and 2,700 hectares of water surface. The farm has 8 administrative zones, 54 residential areas, 13 industrial enterprises, fixed assets worth 600 million yuan, a total population of 63,000, and an annual grain and bean output of 330,000 tons. It is a large-scale, modernized, state-owned comprehensive agricultural enterprise integrating agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, sideline production, fishing, industry, commerce, transportation, construction, and services.

Chahayang boasts a beautiful environment, pleasant climate, fertile plains, and abundant crops. It is a major producer of grain crops such as rice, soybeans, and corn, as well as cash crops like sugar beet, sunflower, kidney beans, and watermelon, along with medicinal herbs such as saposhnikovia and licorice. Known as the “Land of Fish and Rice” and the “Jiangnan of the North,” it was designated in 1996 by the “China Green Food Development Center” as China’s first green food rice production base. In 2002, Chahayang Rice obtained organic food certification from Japan’s JOA, won the gold award at the 1998 “World Chinese Food Expo,” and was honored as one of the “Top Ten Outstanding Brands of the Northeast.”

Chahayang Rice is organic, selenium-enriched, and pre-washed—offering superior quality and enjoying strong sales across China and overseas. It is a healthy food suitable for all ages and also makes a great gift. When cooked, the rice emits a lingering fragrance, with a sweet, soft texture and a fragrant, slightly sweet taste. It is tender, smooth, and pleasant to eat. The aroma that fills the air when the pot is opened is due to its high dry matter content. The grains have a glossy, oily sheen, a slightly sticky texture, and when one bowl is poured into another, no grains stick to the empty bowl, yet the bowl remains coated in oil droplets. Leftover rice does not harden upon cooling. Even if the same variety is grown in another region using the same techniques, its flavor and texture will change. Therefore, Chahayang Rice is considered a premium product among rice from the Beidahuang region.

In 2012, the “Chahayang Rice” trademark was recognized by the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce as a China National Geographical Indication Certification Trademark.
