Beidacang Liquor is a high-quality Daqu liquor produced in 1958 by the Beidacang Distillery in Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, using the production techniques of the Moutai Distillery in Guizhou Province.

The liquor was first trial-produced in 1958 and launched in 1960 for its distinctive style. This Baijiu not only has the typical style of sauce-flavor Daqu liquor but also features the characteristics of northern Chinese liquor, making it highly popular.

At the 1962 Northeast Regional Brewing Cooperation Conference, this liquor ranked first among 12 types of liquor from the region. In 1978, it was named a local famous liquor at the Provincial Quality Liquor Tasting Conference, and again in 1980. In 1984, it won the Bronze Cup Award from the Ministry of Light Industry system.

Qiqihar City in Heilongjiang Province was historically known as Bukui City. In spring, the wind is very strong, sometimes blowing sand and dust that obscures the sky and breaks tree branches, hence the saying “Wind-Swept Bukui.” In the past, Qiqihar, located on the fertile Nenjiang Plain, was described as “vast skies, boundless wilderness, sparse population, and desolation,” earning the name “Great Northern Wilderness.” Today’s Great Northern Wilderness has become the renowned “Great Northern Granary.” Hence, the liquor is named Beidacang Liquor.

Beidacang Liquor uses locally grown “Big Snake Eye” sorghum as its raw material, along with Daqu made from barley, wheat, soybeans, and corn as a saccharification and fermentation agent. Drawing inspiration from Moutai’s brewing process and adapting to local conditions, the production technique involves single feeding, stacking on the fermenting pit, continuous addition of Daqu, batch distillation, long-term aging, and meticulous blending.

The quality characteristics of Beidacang Liquor include being clear and transparent with a slight yellow hue, a prominent sauce aroma, pure and delicate fragrance, a mellow and smooth entry, sweet and gentle taste, and a long-lasting aftertaste. It belongs to the sauce-flavor Baijiu category. Tasters describe it as having an inviting aroma reminiscent of Moutai and a soft, lingering finish. The liquor is sold domestically and exported internationally.

The protected geographical indication area for Beidacang Liquor includes the administrative regions of Longsha District, Jianhua District, Tiefeng District, Fularji District, Ang’angxi District, and Longjiang County in Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province.
