Sika Deer Antler from Jinshantun
The tender horn of a male deer, before it hardens into bone, covered in velvet and containing blood, is called deer antler. It is a valuable traditional Chinese medicine used as a tonic to strengthen the body and is effective for treating conditions such as weakness and neurasthenia. Deer antler is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine and is classified as a medium-grade herb in the “Shennong Bencao Jing” (The Divine Farmer’s Materia Medica). Currently, there are many types and specifications available on the market. Depending on the species of the original animal, it is divided into two types: flower deer antler (yellow-haired antler) and red deer antler (blue-haired antler); based on the harvesting method, it is further divided into two types: chopped antler and sawn antler; and depending on the number of branches and the maturity, it can also be categorized into saddle antler, two-pronged antler, horn-hanging antler, three-forked antler, chopped flower antler, lotus antler, and more.
Sika deer antler has functions such as promoting growth and development, enhancing heart function, accelerating the healing of wounds, fractures, and ulcers, nourishing essence and strengthening the kidneys, and fortifying bones and tendons. It can invigorate bodily functions, raise blood pressure, promote the production of red blood cells, hemoglobin, and reticulocytes, and also support normal kidney function, gastrointestinal motility, and secretion.
