Fuyuan County encompasses four directly administered towns—Haiqing, Zhuaqi, Tongjiang, and Fuyuan—with a total of 26,753 hectares of water surface. It serves as an important breeding and growth area for carp, yielding approximately 10 tons of carp annually. Fuyuan Carp has been certified as a pollution-free aquatic product by both the Fuyuan Sturgeon and Huso Breeding and Farming Co., Ltd. and the Fuyuan State-owned Fish Farm.
The development of fisheries in the Fuyuan region has a long history. Archaeological findings indicate that fishing activities existed in the Fuyuan area as early as before the Tang Dynasty, initiated by the ancestors of the Hezhe people and other ethnic minorities along the Ussuri River basin. To this day, leveraging its natural environment and resource advantages, fisheries remain one of the pillar industries of Fuyuan County.
Fuyuan County features two major river systems—the Heilongjiang and Ussuri rivers—spanning a total of 268 kilometers. In particular, the county has numerous unpolluted lakes and pools. With a mild climate, abundant sunlight, ample rainfall, and a sound ecological environment, the area boasts rich fishery resources, including 105 species of fish from 72 genera and 21 families, among which 59 are economically valuable species. Each kilogram contains over 160 mg of calcium, over 1,500 mg of phosphorus, over 260 mg of magnesium, over 0.07 mg of iron, over 5 mg of zinc, more than 18% crude protein, less than 5% crude fat, and a high content of unsaturated fatty acids exceeding 70%, all of which are highly beneficial to human health. Fuyuan Carp has been certified as a pollution-free aquatic product by both the Fuyuan Sturgeon and Huso Breeding and Farming Co., Ltd. and the Fuyuan State-owned Fish Farm. This is also recorded in the county annals.

Geographical Scope
Fuyuan County is located in the northeastern border of China, between 133°40′–135°5′20″ east longitude and 47°25′30″–48°27′40″ north latitude, covering a total area of 6,262.48 square kilometers. It borders Russia across the Heilongjiang and Ussuri rivers to the east and north, neighbors Raohe to the south, and connects to Tongjiang to the west. The main streams of the Heilongjiang and Ussuri rivers within the county span 268 kilometers, and the area boasts rich fishery resources, including 105 species of fish from 72 genera and 21 families, among which 59 are economically valuable species. Product Quality Characteristics
This section primarily describes the unique quality characteristics of the registered product and the quality and safety standards adhered to, mainly including: 1. External sensory characteristics: Fuyuan Carp has a spindle-shaped body with a raised back behind the head. Its mouth is subterminal and slightly horseshoe-shaped, with two pairs of barbels. The fish generally exhibits a golden-yellow body, a blackish-brown back, and a bright red lower lobe of the caudal fin, known as “golden scales and crimson tail.” It reaches sexual maturity at around three years old, with a body length of about 30 cm. The flesh is white, tender, delicious, and free of small bones. 2. Internal quality indicators: Fuyuan Carp from the Heilongjiang and Ussuri rivers is rich in trace elements, especially calcium and phosphorus. Each kilogram contains ≥160 mg of calcium, ≥1,500 mg of phosphorus, ≥260 mg of magnesium, ≥5 mg of zinc, ≥18% crude protein, ≤5% crude fat, and over 70% unsaturated fatty acids (higher than 70% of total fatty acids), all of which are very beneficial to human health. 3. Safety requirements: Fuyuan Carp complies with GB/T18407.4-2001 "Agricultural Product Safety Quality — Pollution-Free Aquatic Product Environmental Requirements for Production Areas"; the production environment follows NY5051-2001 "Pollution-Free Food — Water Quality for Freshwater Aquaculture"; and the product itself meets the standard NY5053-2005 "Pollution-Free Food — Common Freshwater Fish."
