Hai Shen Oil
Also known as snow frog or Chinese forest frog, it is an amphibious frog species found in the forests and wetlands along the Songhua River basin in Heilongjiang Province. Along with bear paw, ptarmigan, and matsutake mushroom, it is ranked as one of the “Four Mountain Delicacies” of Heilongjiang. During the cold season, it dives to the bottom of water bodies to hibernate, and after the Spring Equinox, it begins to come ashore, becoming active and reproducing. It has a plump body and strong legs, with tender meat and a delicious flavor. The dried body and the dried oviducts of the female frog (commonly known as hai shen oil) are rich in fat, protein, various vitamins, and hormones. They are believed to nourish kidney essence, moisten lungs, and nourish yin, serving as a tonic for strengthening the body.
