Squirrel fur

Squirrel fur comes from the northeastern regions, Xinjiang, Hebei, and other areas, with the largest quantity found in the Greater and Lesser Khingan Mountains, known as Northeastern squirrel fur; that from the Altai Mountains in Xinjiang is called Altai squirrel fur; and that from Hebei Province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is referred to as Dongling squirrel fur.

The fur has fine, dense, flexible underfur with a glossy sheen, featuring alternating black and gray bands along the hair shafts, and the leather is tough. When made into fur garments, it is suitable for high-end women’s fur coats (commonly known as “grayback” coats or “graylining” coats), as well as for making various men’s and women’s fur hats, scarves, and collars—lightweight, warm, and stylish. The tail fur is used as material for premium paintbrushes and precision instrument brushes.
