Yanhuai River Valley Grapes are a specialty of Yanqing County in Beijing. The Yanhuai River Valley has a high-quality wine grape base known for its premium quality, stable yield, long vine life, and attractive appearance. Yanhuai River Valley Grapes are a nationally protected product under the Agricultural Product Geographical Indication system.  Yanqing and Huailai are both situated in the Yanhuai Basin. Before 1958, they were part of the same county, sharing connected landscapes, adjacent geography, close people-to-people ties, integrated regions, and a shared cultural heritage. Their long history of economic and social-cultural exchanges makes them a key node in the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.  The Yanhuai River Valley production area is located at the northwestern gateway of the capital and is the only grape and wine production region in the world situated within a national capital. It has over 700 years of grape cultivation history, with records dating back to the "Biography of Yelü Chucai" in the "History of Yuan." Joint development of the Yanhuai River Valley production area is a concrete measure taken by the two counties to implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping and promote the national strategy of coordinated development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It serves as a key support for achieving integrated industrial development between the two counties, and also meets the practical need to break free from the mindset of “each minding their own small plot,” fostering complementary growth and upgrading of the grape and wine industries in both counties.

In 2014, the application for "Yanhuai River Valley Grapes," submitted by the Yanqing County Grape and Wine Association of Beijing, passed the review of the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and expert evaluation, leading to its registration and protection under the National Agricultural Product Geographical Indication system.

  Geographical Scope

Centered around the Guanting Reservoir, the area spans both Yanqing and Huailai counties. It lies to the north against the Yanshan Mountain Range, to the south against the Jundu Mountain Range—home to the Badaling section of the Great Wall—and in the central part covers the valleys of the Guishui River, Sanggan River, and Yanghe River, as well as areas along the Guanting Reservoir. The region includes 30 administrative villages across eight towns in Yanqing: Zhangshanying, Jiuxian, Xiangying, Yongning, Shenjiaying, Kangzhuang, Yanqing Town, and Badaling; and 150 administrative villages across 16 towns in Huailai County: Xiaonanxinfu, Sangyuan, Langshan, Beixinpu, Wangjialou, Tumu, Cunrui, Sangyuan, Guanting, Sunzhuangzi, Ruiyunguan, Donghuayuan, Xibalai, Dongbalai, Dahuangzhuang, and Xinbao’an.  The geographical coordinates are: 115°6′ to 116°34′ east longitude, 40°4′ to 40°47′ north latitude. The planting area is approximately 20,000 hectares, with an annual output of about 163,000 tons.

  Product Quality Characteristics

Yanhuai River Valley Grapes feature neat clusters, uniform berries, deep coloration in colored varieties, thick bloom, beautiful appearance, abundant juice, high sugar content, rich concentration, and do not spill juice when cut—offering an exceptionally delicious and refreshing taste.
