Lushun Abalone
Lushun Abalone is a product with a geographical indication for agricultural products.
Lushun is located at the southernmost tip of the Liaodong Peninsula, right in the narrow strait where the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea converge. The average annual seawater temperature along the coast is 12°C, with a maximum of 27°C and a minimum of 1°C. The area boasts abundant algae resources and moderate ocean currents, providing ideal conditions for abalone growth. Lushun is a famous habitat for wild abalone and also one of the earliest regions to engage in the farming of Patinopecten yessoensis (Japanese scallop abalone).

Geographic Range
Lushun abalone is mainly distributed in the sea areas under the jurisdiction of Longtou Subdistrict, Tieshan Subdistrict, Lushun Development Zone, and Shuangdaowan Subdistrict within the administrative region of Lushun District, Dalian City. The sea area spans from 121°16′29.71″E to 121°20′22.07″E longitude and 38°49′13.97″N to 38°58′9.95″N latitude, covering a total aquaculture and enhancement area of 1,866 hectares.
Product Quality Characteristics
(1) Typical Quality Characteristics of Lushun Abalone 1. Fresh Lushun Abalone – Sensory Features: The shell is medium-sized, solid, with a length-to-width ratio of 1.38:1 to 1.42:1. The body whorl is large, featuring a row of protrusions and small holes. The surface is divided into left and right sections by these protrusions and holes. The left side is long and narrow, relatively smooth; the right side is broad, rough, and exhibits nodular or wavy bumps. The shell surface is greenish-brown or brown with distinct growth lines. The inner surface is silvery-white with a pearly sheen. The shell is clean, free of mud, intact, and may have minor edge damage. The foot has strong suction power. It possesses the distinctive aroma of abalone, with no off-odors. Farmed abalone measures 6 cm or more; wild abalone measures 8 cm or more. 2. Dried Lushun Abalone – Sensory Features: Good gloss, semi-transparent. The body is intact and plump. The surface is clean, free of impurities, contamination, pests, or mold. Grade 1: 20 pieces/kg; Grade 2: 40 pieces/kg; Grade 3: 60 pieces/kg. 3. Internal Quality Indicators: The flesh of Lushun abalone is white or light yellow, elastic, delicious, and has a unique aroma. According to tests by the National Aquatic Products Quality Supervision and Testing Center, fresh abalone contains 12–16% protein, 0.3–0.8% fat, is rich in various amino acids, and has 5–9 mg of iron per 100 g.
