Lushun Pears are a specialty of Lushunkou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province. "Lushun Pears" are large in size, beautifully shaped, with fine-textured flesh, a unique flavor, and excellent quality. When ripe, they turn golden yellow with a slight red blush on the sun-exposed side. Their skin is extremely thin, and the flesh is milky white. "Lushun Pears" have been honored as a "Chinese Famous Fruit" and certified by the state as a "pollution-free agricultural product." Known as the "Fruit Kingdom," Lushunkou District not only produces popular fruits such as apples, peaches, and cherries, but its Lushun Pears, which enjoy high recognition both in China and abroad, are hailed as the "queen" of fruits. They have repeatedly won gold awards in national high-quality agricultural product evaluations and have now developed into a traditional and dominant pillar industry in the local rural economy.
In recent years, Lushunkou District has identified the development of high-quality fruit as a leading agricultural industry as part of its efforts to adjust the agricultural industrial structure. Pear cultivation in the region has seen rapid growth. To date, the district has over 10,000 acres of pear orchards, with a production volume exceeding 10,000 tons. The main varieties include Sandi Pear (commonly known as Summer Pear) and Bosc Pear (commonly known as Autumn Pear), mainly grown in areas such as the Lushunkou Economic Development Zone, Shuangdaowan Subdistrict, Shuishiying Subdistrict, and Tieshan Subdistrict.
"Lushun Pears" are large in size, beautifully shaped, with fine-textured flesh, a unique flavor, and excellent quality. When ripe, they turn golden yellow with a slight red blush on the sun-exposed side. Their skin is extremely thin, and the flesh is milky white, soft and easily melting in texture, juicy, and richly fragrant, sweet and delicious, with a sugar content between 15% and 17%. "Lushun Pears" have been honored as a "Chinese Famous Fruit" and certified by the state as a "pollution-free agricultural product." Currently, Lushun Pears are sold well in both domestic and international markets and are highly favored by consumers.
In 2013, the "Lushun Pears" application submitted by Dalian Jinguo Fruit Industry Professional Cooperative passed expert evaluation and became a product with protected geographical indication for agricultural products.
Geographical Scope
Lushunkou District is located at the southernmost tip of the Liaodong Peninsula and is under the jurisdiction of Dalian City. It borders the Yellow Sea to the east, the Bohai Sea to the west, faces the Shandong Peninsula across the sea to the south, and relies on Dalian to the north, situated 45 kilometers from downtown Dalian. It is an important node on the national "eight vertical and eight horizontal" transportation trunk lines. The district spans 26.1 kilometers from north to south and 31.2 kilometers from east to west, covering a total area of 506.8 square kilometers, with a coastline of 169.7 kilometers. The production area for the "Lushun Pears" product with protected geographical indication for agricultural products is defined by the following coordinates: 120°57′ to 121°28′30″ east longitude, 38°40′ to 39°10′ north latitude, stretching east to Huangnichuan Village in Longwangtang Subdistrict, south to Chenjia Village in Tieshan Subdistrict, west to Dadianzi Village in Shuangdaowan Subdistrict, and north to Zhaojia Village in Changcheng Subdistrict. The district has over 8,000 acres of pear orchards, with a protected area of 12,000 acres, an average yield of 3,000 kilograms per acre, and a total production of approximately 24,000 tons.
