Forest Frog
In the mountainous regions of Liaoning, especially within the Liaodong forest area, there is a highly renowned and quite precious species of frog. This amphibian, scientifically known as the Chinese forest frog, is locally called the Forest Frog. The term "Forest Frog" originates from the Manchu language used hundreds of years ago and has been passed down and used to this day. The flesh of the Forest Frog is tender, delicious, and aromatic, and can be prepared into exquisite dishes, making it one of China’s ancient and famous “Eight Delicacies.” The Forest Frog resembles a frog in appearance but differs in habits. While frogs hibernate underground, Forest Frogs gather in stone caves, crevices, or under cliffs with flowing water, or at the base of tree roots, where they hibernate for up to five months. In recent years, efforts to promote the artificial breeding of Forest Frogs have achieved considerable success.
