Red Pine Nuts from Caohekou
Red Pine Nuts from Caohekou are a protected geographical indication product.
Red pine nuts are a highly nutritious, all-natural green food. They are rich in vitamins as well as essential fatty acids such as oleic acid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid. They also contain pinolenic acid, which is not found in other plants and has been shown to help suppress hay fever, lower blood sugar, and relieve fatigue. In the Caohekou area of Benxi, Liaoning Province, there is a long history of artificially cultivated Korean pine forests. As early as the beginning of the 1930s, Japanese larch was introduced, followed by the artificial cultivation of Changbai larch and red pine. In the spring of 1931, 2.2 hectares of pine seedlings were planted in the wasteland gully of Xigou in Caohekou. After the liberation of Benxi in 1949, an additional 7 hectares of red pine seedlings were planted in the spring, making this red pine forest the first large-scale artificial one in China. Benefiting from this unique natural advantage, “Red Pine Nuts from Caohekou” have become a renowned green food.
In 2010, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China designated “Red Pine Nuts from Caohekou” as a national protected geographical indication product. (No. 138, 2010)
