The warm climate, abundant sunlight, and high accumulated temperature in Korla provide ideal growing conditions for heat- and light-loving Pima cotton. The Pima cotton produced in Korla is pure white in color, with excellent spinnability, and its evenness and fiber length rank among the best in the world. It can rival California's "Pima S-6" cotton on the international market, and its strength is even higher than that of the most renowned Pima cotton from countries such as Peru, India, the CIS, and the United States. In 1993, 7,210 hectares were planted, yielding 9,263 tons. By 1998, production had reached 18,775 tons. (Korla)
