Yuli Luobu Lamb
Yuli Luobu Lamb is a product with geographical indication status.
"The best lamb in the world comes from Yuli" is a long-standing belief in Xinjiang. The Tarim River Basin in Xinjiang abounds in wild medicinal plants such as Apocynum, hay, and Cistanche. The lamb in Yuli County is mainly from the Luobu sheep breed. These sheep drink melted snow water from the Tianshan Mountains, feed on licorice (a traditional Chinese medicinal herb), Apocynum (a tea known for longevity and lowering blood pressure in Xinjiang), and the leaves of the thousand-year-surviving Populus euphratica tree. Consuming these alkaline-rich grasses all year round results in lamb that is completely free of gaminess and boasts tender, delicious meat.
Luobu sheep are the dominant breed among local sheep in Yuli County. They have stable genetics, strong disease resistance, high lean meat content, low fat, and are virtually odorless. The excellent taste of Luobu lamb is related both to the breed itself and to the sheep's preference for alkaline plants in their saline-alkali-rich environment. Tests show that the alkaline amino acid index of Luobu lamb is much higher than that of other types of lamb, and its price is also about 8 to 10 yuan per kilogram higher.
