Qingyang Embroidery
Embroidery is a major category of folk arts and crafts in Qingyang, widely distributed and practiced by thousands of households. The embroidery from Qingyang and Zhengning counties is particularly renowned.
There is a wide variety of Qingyang Embroidery products, including clothing, cushions, shoe uppers, sock soles, pillow tops, bellybands, ear pillows, hats, sachets, tobacco pouches, needle cases, and fabric toys. Though not as famous as Suzhou embroidery or other embroidery schools, it boasts a long history, enduring popularity, a solid foundation, and a unique style. With the continuous improvement of living standards among the people in the old revolutionary base areas, it shines with even more captivating brilliance.
Qingyang Embroidery features bright colors, distinct layers, and strong contrasts — deep yet not muddy, vibrant yet not gaudy. The color scheme primarily uses red, black, blue, and white to achieve an effect that is vivid, colorful, pure, elegant, and yet dignified and powerful.
The production area of Qingyang Embroidery covers the entire administrative region of Qingyang City, Gansu Province.
