　　Yanliang District is one of China’s major melon production bases. This early spring, the area planted with melons reached 55,000 mu, with an expected total yield of 143,000 tons. Known for its sweet and refreshing taste, pure flavor, thick flesh and small cavity, as well as its excellent storability and transportability, Yanliang Melon enjoys nationwide fame and is favored by many consumers. Currently in peak harvest season, Yanliang District has launched a pilot program at Fukang Melon Professional Cooperative. Building on previous years when every melon bore the “Fukang” trademark, over 1,000 “Quality Commitment Cards” have been specially printed this year. These cards are stamped with the cooperative seal, display the supervision hotline of the District Agricultural Inspection Center, and follow a one-household-one-number and one-box-one-card system. The program officially launched on May 1st.

　　Geographic Scope

　　The protected geographic area for Yanliang Melon, a product with geographical indication status, includes 36 administrative villages across Guanshan Town and Wutun Town in Yanliang District. The highest elevation in the area is 483.2 meters and the lowest is 351.7 meters. The geographical coordinates range from longitude 109°08′54″ to 109°25′37″ and latitude 34°35′11″ to 34°44′37″. It spans from Fuma Village in Guanshan Town in the east, to Laozhai Village in Wutun Town in the south, to Zuizi Village in Guanshan Town in the west, and to Laowang Village in Guanshan Town in the north. The total production area is 55,000 mu, with an average annual output of over 130,000 tons.

　　Product Quality Characteristics

　　1. External sensory characteristics: Yanliang Melon matures early, has an attractive appearance, a small cavity with thick flesh, delicate flesh texture, juicy and soft pulp, is crisp, sweet and refreshing, with a thick rind that makes it suitable for storage and transport, and has a long shelf life. 2. Unique internal composition: A standout feature of Yanliang Melon is its high sugar content, with total sugar ranging between 7.5% and 8.5%. 3. Safety requirements: Yanliang Melon production bases strictly follow the non-polluting thick-skinned melon production technical regulations DB6101/T18-2007, implementing comprehensive standardized production management. Production processes are regularly inspected by the Yanliang District Agricultural Technology Extension Station and the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Inspection and Monitoring Center to ensure no banned highly toxic or high-residue pesticides are used. Production bases strictly enforce origin approval systems. Products can only be sold after sampling and passing quality tests conducted by inspection departments, which then issue approval certificates — ensuring the safety and quality of Yanliang Melon.
