Jiami Donkey

　　The “Jiami Donkey” is a locally bred, high-quality livestock breed officially recognized by the state for both labor and meat purposes. It is mainly produced in the eastern part of Mizhi County, bordering Jia County. The donkey has been raised in Mizhi for over 3,000 years. The Jiami Donkey is a valuable animal — its meat is high in protein, low in fat, tender, and delicious, and both the meat and organs are excellent raw materials for biopharmaceuticals. Jiami Donkeys have straight limbs, strong joints, visible tendons, sturdy hooves, short and dense fur, are tolerant to coarse feed, and are highly adaptable. They are sold across more than 20 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China and have contributed to the development of the country’s donkey farming industry. Currently, there are around 30,000 Jiami Donkeys in the production area, which can form the basis for scaled industrial development of Jiami Donkey-related products in the near future. (Yan’an)
