Pastry Corners
Pastry Corners are an essential dish for the people of Wubao during festivals and holidays. In January 2016, they were featured as the only dish from northern Shaanxi in the film "A Bite of China: Celebrating the Chinese New Year."
The main ingredients of Pastry Corners are soft millet flour, white (or brown) sugar, sesame seeds, and cooking oil. The dough is moistened with water, layered, and then steamed in a steamer basket until cooked. The cooked dough is then placed on a work surface, coated with oil, kneaded evenly, and cut into sections. These are filled with a sweet mixture of white (or brown) sugar and sesame seeds. Finally, they are deep-fried until golden brown and ready to eat. The fried pastry is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a sweet and glutinous taste that is a cherished food memory for many children in Wubao.
