Lawu walnuts are produced in Lawu Township, Binchuan County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province, along both banks of the Exi River, a tributary of the upper Jinsha River. With an average altitude of 2,200 meters, the unique geographical location and climate have produced the Lawu thin-shelled walnut — a premium product of the walnut family. These nuts are beautifully shaped, thin-shelled, with fine and smooth veins, shallow and delicate grooves, making it easy to extract the whole, white kernel. They are low in fat, high in protein, and have a pure, delicious flavor. The nuts also offer dual health benefits as both food and medicine, and are referred to by the local Yi people as the “golden fruit.”

Lawu walnuts are an excellent variety known for both their fruit and oil qualities. They have been ranked as the second-best variety in China and are one of the key varieties promoted by Yunnan Province for domestic sales and foreign trade.
