The costumes of women from the A Long and Ruo Rong subgroups both feature waist ornaments. Among them, the Ruo Rong subgroup has lived alongside the Bai people for a long time in mixed communities, so their attire is essentially the same as that of the Bai people in Lanping.

The A Long subgroup, having been deeply influenced by Tibetan culture, shares some similarities with Tibetan women’s clothing.

A Long women typically wear a light-colored tunic that reaches to the calves underneath, a dark-colored collarless jacket that reaches to the hips on top, and a nearly floor-length vertical-striped floral sash around the waist. The waist belt, about three inches wide, features horizontal stripes in bright colors, which serve as a striking accent against the varying tones of the overall costume. Their chest decorations usually consist of beaded necklaces in vivid colors, while their headdress features red-and-white tasseled tassels.
