Fengqing Dianhong Black Tea
Fengqing Dianhong Black Tea is a geographical indication certification trademark.
Fengqing is the birthplace of Dianhong black tea. The Dianhong Gongfu was first successfully trial-produced in Fengqing, Yunnan in 1939. According to the Shunning County Annals: "In 1938, the tea-growing regions in the southeastern provinces were close to the war zones, making production difficult. Under government orders, China Tea Company actively developed the southwestern tea regions to maintain the existing international market for Chinese tea, and on March 8th, 1939 (the 28th year of the Republic of China), the Shunning Tea Factory (now Fengqing Tea Factory) was officially established, with construction and trial production carried out simultaneously." That year, 15 tons were produced and exported to the UK. Production continued to expand thereafter, with other areas such as Menghai in Xishuangbanna also joining in production. The product quality was excellent and highly welcomed in the international market. Fengqing is the origin of large-leaf tea and is suitable for producing both black tea and Pu'er tea. Since the 1940s, the locally produced "Dianhong" has been exported to countries such as the UK and the US, including varieties such as Dianhong Gongfu and Dianhong Broken. It has won several honors, including the National Quality Silver Award, recognition as a Famous Chinese Tea, and being designated as an Official Diplomatic Gift Tea. In 1986, the group’s Dianhong black tea was presented as a state gift to Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. It is said that the Queen displayed the "Dianhong" in a transparent container as an ornamental item, treating it as a treasured possession. Fengqing is also known as the "Hometown of Dianhong Black Tea," and every Labor Day on May 1st is designated as the "Tea Festival" for trade and cultural exchanges.
