Amomum villosum
Yunnan's Xishuangbanna region is rich in the production of Amomum villosum, especially around the Jinuo Mountain area, where the Jinuo ethnic group resides—it is a concentrated production zone for this plant. This achievement is the result of the joint hard work of scientific workers from Yunnan Province and the Jinuo people. Amomum villosum has the functions of nourishing the lungs and invigorating the spleen, benefiting the stomach and kidneys, regulating vital energy, clearing stagnant qi, and relieving cold-induced distension and fullness. It is a type of ginger family plant, divided into two varieties: spring Amomum villosum and shell Amomum villosum, both its fruits and flowers are used medicinally. It helps regulate qi and soothe the middle, strengthens the stomach and aids digestion. As a valuable and commonly used traditional Chinese medicinal herb, it is also an important raw material in common Chinese patent medicines such as Xiangsha Weiwu Pills, Xiangsha Liujunzi Pills, and Shugan Pills. After planting, Amomum villosum generally begins to bloom and bear fruit in three years, yielding a profit of 500 to 1,000 yuan per mu, and can be harvested continuously for 10 years. In Yunnan and the two Guang provinces (Guangdong and Guangxi), the spring variety is more commonly produced. Currently, Yunnan ranks second in Amomum villosum production nationwide.
