The terrain in Songtao is rugged and mountainous, shrouded in clouds and mist. Its soil and climate are highly conducive to tea tree growth. Moreover, Songtao lies at the northeastern foot of Fanjing Mountain, a pristine ecological zone within the UNESCO-designated "Man and Biosphere Reserve Network." Both the soil and water here are unpolluted, and the area is rich in trace elements such as selenium underground—making it ideal for producing premium green tea. Songtao has a long history of tea production. According to the "Songtao Hall Annals," its tea buds have been tribute offerings since the Tang Dynasty and have enjoyed enduring fame. Songtao tea is hailed as the crown of the Wuling Mountains.

In 1993, the county tea company jointly developed a series of products such as "Songtao Emerald Sprout," "Songtao Spring Tip," and "Jade Waterfall Brand Jasmine Tea" in collaboration with the China Tea Research Institute. Testing by the National Agricultural Ministry’s Tea Quality Inspection Center in 1993 revealed that Songtao green tea contains 5.2% amino acids, 18.7% tea polyphenols, 3.1% caffeine... in addition to abundant essential trace elements like selenium and zinc. As a result, it was awarded the "High Amino Acid, Low Caffeine, Selenium and Zinc Rich – China Famous Tea Certificate," and rated as a national high-quality famous tea. In 1994, Songtao green tea won the first prize at the National Famous Tea Evaluation Competition—the "China Tea Cup."

Songtao green tea boasts a vibrant emerald color, visible white pekoe, and is rich in nutrients. It offers a fresh, refreshing taste with a lasting fragrance. Known for its health benefits—including antibacterial and detoxifying effects, lowering blood lipids and preventing thrombosis, fighting cancer and resisting radiation, as well as aiding weight loss and improving fitness—it is revered as a miraculous health tea. It makes an excellent gift for family and friends and is a must-have for travelers.
