Sinan conical hats
Sinan conical hats
Sinan conical hats come in two types: those made of palm fiber and those made of paper, with the palm fiber ones being the most famous. The main production area is Tangtou Town. The production process involves first slicing the Cizhu bamboo into strips, then dividing these strips into fine threads, which are woven around a frame. Palm fiber conical hats typically have a diameter of 65 centimeters. The bamboo threads are divided into upper and lower layers, with green cloth (legend says it was bestowed by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang himself) stuffed at the top center, red and green paper corners placed, palm fiber laid down, the edges secured, and finally, tung oil is sprayed on. Their primary functions are to provide shade and shelter, while also being aesthetically pleasing and exquisitely crafted.
