Shibian Century Egg

Shibian century egg has a history of over 600 years and is also known as pine flower century egg. Its egg white is transparent and elastic, with stacked pine flower patterns, while the yolk displays colorful layers in dark green, grass green, tea color, deep green, and bright red. It tastes mellow, refreshing, and delicious, with a pleasant aftertaste that doesn't cloy even when eaten frequently. It's easy to digest. It also offers benefits such as clearing heat and relieving summer heat, soothing the gallbladder and improving eyesight, stimulating appetite and moistening the throat, sobering up and quenching thirst, and lowering blood pressure. In earlier times, it was mostly produced by small family workshops. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the newly established Comprehensive Processing Factory of Shibian Foreign Trade Company adopted a method combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. This improved the new process of soaking fresh eggs in a liquid synthesized from multiple ingredients such as calcium oxide, sodium carbonate, lead oxide, and tea powder, ensuring the maturation period, shelf life, and freshness preservation of the century eggs. It enhanced the nutritional content of the eggs and successfully introduced sugar-centered century eggs that are vibrant in color and excellent in taste. The product was once exported to the United States, Canada, and Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia. In 1993, a single order from Malaysia alone reached over 2 million eggs.
