Tianzhu Native Duck

Tianzhu Native Duck is a specialty of Tianzhu County in Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It has a short growth cycle — typically reaching over 2 kilograms in just 55–60 days. The breed is hardy, resistant to disease, and produces tender, flavorful meat that is lean with minimal fat, offering no greasy aftertaste, making it an excellent choice for roast duck.

Tianzhu Native Duck is a unique meat duck breed in China, resulting from the crossbreeding of a red-crested Muscovy duck and a local female mallard. It differs significantly from both parent breeds, is non-reproductive, highly adaptable, disease-resistant, fast-growing, and boasts a high slaughter rate — reaching a body weight of 1.5 kilograms by two months of age.

The Tianzhu Native Duck features large size, tender meat, delicious flavor, and high lean-to-fat ratio with minimal subcutaneous fat, leaving no greasy sensation even when eaten in large quantities. Known for its “early maturity, fragrant taste, tenderness, and purity,” it is ranked among the province’s “Four Famous Ducks” and is hailed as “a treasure of Tianzhu.” As a short, flat, and fast-return farming project, the native duck industry has long enjoyed strong demand in both domestic and external markets. In recent years, Tianzhu County has leveraged its local breeding advantages to vigorously develop the native duck economy, implementing the “Ten Million Native Ducks Project” to grow and strengthen this “duck-based economy” as a livelihood-boosting industry. The county has built the largest native duck incubation base in the province. Current breeding scale has reached 4 million ducks, with an annual output of 3.75 million.
