The Taxi Fragrant Goat from Rongjiang County is a renowned local breed of high-quality goat. Raised in a clean and natural ecological environment, this goat has been developed through long-term natural selection and breeding. It is characterized by early maturity, strong disease resistance, wide adaptability, high fertility, tolerance to coarse feed, mild gaminess, and delicious meat. The Fragrant Goats are raised in extensive systems and have diverse diets. They are primarily free-range, allowing the goats to freely graze various wild grasses and plant leaves until they are full and hydrated. In winter, some supplementary feed is provided, while clean drinking water and adequate salt are ensured year-round. Taxi Township in Rongjiang County is located at the southern foot of the main peak of Leigong Mountain, with an average elevation of 1,065 meters. The area boasts beautiful scenery and abundant forage resources, making it an ideal base for the conservation, breeding, and development of commercial Fragrant Goats. In 1988, experts from provincial authorities inspected the Taxi Fragrant Goat breed and honored the region as the “Hometown of Fragrant Goats.”

Rongjiang Fragrant Goats have fine wool and premium hides, and their “goat bile” is famous throughout central Guizhou. Goat bile is a traditional delicacy originating from the mountainous areas of Rongjiang and neighboring counties, often served by ethnic groups such as the Dong, Miao, Shui, and Yao as a special dish for honored guests. After slaughtering the Fragrant Goat, the greenish liquid found in the stomach and small intestines—consisting of partially or fully digested food—is extracted. This liquid is then sautéed with seasonings such as Sichuan pepper, ginger, cilantro, tangerine peel, garlic, and chili peppers to make “goat bile.” When stir-frying goat meat or offal, adding this bile creates a uniquely flavored dish known as “bile-flavored goat,” which is richly aromatic, mildly bitter with a sweet aftertaste, stimulates appetite, and offers health benefits such as kidney nourishment, digestive aid, and internal heat relief.

The production area of the Taxi Fragrant Goat includes the following 19 towns and townships under the jurisdiction of Rongjiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province: Guzhou Town, Zhongcheng Town, Zhaihao Town, Pingyong Town, Leli Town, Langdong Town, Zaima Township, Chongyi Township, Pingjiang Township, Sanjiang Township, Renli Township, Taxi Township, Bakai Township, Dingwei Township, Xinghua Township, Jihua Township, Shuiwei Township, Pingyang Township, and Liangwang Township.
