Longli Pea Shoots
Longli Pea Shoots are a product with a geographical indication for agricultural products.
Longli Pea Shoots: In Longli County, the large temperature difference between day and night in winter reduces the likelihood of pests and diseases, and the resulting shoots are characterized by emerald green leaves, a pleasant aroma, a melt-in-the-mouth texture, and a sweet aftertaste. According to the Guizhou Agricultural Chronicles, before 1943, Longli had already begun trial planting of pea shoots. By the early 1960s, after extensive trial experiments, Longli Pea Shoots started to be promoted for wider cultivation—boasting over 50 years of planting history. The shoots are sold to Hong Kong and Macao, with the highest retail price reaching 268 Hong Kong dollars per jin (500g).
According to the Guizhou Agricultural Chronicles, Longli County began trial planting of pea shoots in 1943, and the crop has now been cultivated for over 50 years. Currently, the county has around 30,000 mu (about 2,000 hectares) of pea shoot fields under cultivation year-round, including 20,000 mu in the Longli Wantan River Modern High-Efficiency Eco-Agricultural Demonstration Park within the provincial agricultural science and technology zone. The annual yield across the county reaches 21,000 tons, with a total output value of 84 million yuan. Longli Pea Shoots sell well both within and outside the province, and are also exported to Hong Kong and Macao via Hong Kong Fengtai Agricultural Science and Technology Company, with an average selling price of 60–80 Hong Kong dollars per jin, and a top price reaching as high as 268 Hong Kong dollars per jin.
Longli Pea Shoots are grown on over 30,000 mu of land annually, with 20,000 mu of that in the Wantanhe Ecological Agriculture Demonstration Park. The highest recorded yield per mu exceeds 1,700 jin, with an average yield of over 1,400 jin. The county's total pea shoot output reaches 21,000 tons, with a total output value of about 84 million yuan. It is projected that by 2020, the planted area of Longli Pea Shoots will reach 50,000 mu.
