Weng'an Yellow Sticky Rice Cake
Weng'an Yellow Sticky Rice Cake is a specialty of Weng'an County in Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is a traditional folk food in Guizhou with over 1,000 years of production history. As such, Weng'an is also honored as the "Hometown of Yellow Sticky Rice Cake in China."
Weng'an Yellow Sticky Rice Cake is crafted using traditional methods, with locally grown glutinous rice naturally rich in zinc and selenium as the main ingredient. Other high-quality ingredients—including soybeans, red dates, green tea, black glutinous rice, and rock sugar—are scientifically blended. The mixture is wrapped in wild bamboo leaves and undergoes more than ten hours of processing until it turns from white to yellow. The finished cake features translucent glutinous rice, along with the combined fragrances of glutinous rice, soybeans, red dates, green tea, bamboo leaves, and wood—rich in various elements essential to the human body. Today, this distinctly rustic and deeply nostalgic food has increasingly become a popular choice for tourism, home consumption, and gifts for family and friends.
In the past, Weng'an Yellow Sticky Rice Cake was produced only in small workshops without industrial-scale development. In recent years, several large-scale yellow sticky rice cake processing enterprises have emerged in Weng'an County, including Chaiyima, Axiang, and Renjiumei. According to statistics, Weng'an now has three large-scale yellow sticky rice cake companies and over 200 small workshop-style producers. In 2010, the production and processing scale of the Weng'an Yellow Sticky Rice Cake industry exceeded 8,000 tons, with an output value of over 40 million yuan.
