Ledaozi Chicken is a specialty of Naxi District, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province. The brand image of "Ledaozi" free-range native chicken has gradually gained popularity and recognition among consumers both within and outside the province. Ledaozi Chicken is a nationally protected geographical indication agricultural product.
Naxi District is rich in forest resources, with existing bamboo forest areas covering 654,000 mu and a forest coverage rate of 51.2%. It is one of China’s 13 major mixed bamboo counties (districts) and ranks among the top 10 counties (districts) in Sichuan Province’s modern forestry industry. In recent years, leveraging its unique forest resource advantages, Naxi District has focused on developing the distinctive "Ledaozi" free-range native chicken industry.
In 2011, Naxi District successfully established the Ledaozi Free-Range Native Chicken Provincial Standardized Breeding Agricultural Demonstration Zone (for naming standardization, the term “free-range native chicken” has since been renamed “free-range chicken”). Through two years of development guided by standardization, the industry achieved healthy growth with notable results. The annual output of Ledaozi free-range chickens in the district increased from 9 million to 12.72 million, the breeding area expanded from 30,000 mu to 45,000 mu, and the breeding scope extended to all 14 towns (streets) of the district. A preliminary industrial chain was formed, and the annual output value grew from 600 million yuan to 1 billion yuan.
In 2014, "Ledaozi Chicken," applied for by the Ledaozi Free-Range Chicken Breeding Association of Naxi District, Luzhou City, passed the review of the Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and expert evaluation, and was granted national geographical indication agricultural product protection status.
