Pingwu Walnuts

Pingwu walnuts are a protected geographical indication product.

　　Pingwu walnuts refer to walnuts produced within the administrative region of Pingwu County, Sichuan Province. Thanks to the area’s favorable climate and soil conditions for walnut tree growth, the walnuts are large in size, have thin shells, golden kernels, superior quality, and are pollution-free, making them highly favored by consumers both in China and abroad. The product has been certified as a Grade A Green Food by the China Green Food Development Center and has been included in the National Geographical Indication Product Protection Catalogue of China.

　　　Pingwu was once among China’s top ten walnut-producing counties and has long been a major walnut-producing region in Sichuan Province. The county places great emphasis on developing walnut cultivation and provides farmers with support in terms of policy, funding, and technology through various means. Through these efforts, the reputation of Pingwu walnuts has grown steadily: in August 2010, the “Fuyuan Longmen Mountain” brand walnuts, applied for by the Shikan Walnut Professional Cooperative of Pingwu County, were certified as Grade A Green Food by the China Green Food Development Center and granted the right to use the Green Food logo, marking their qualification to enter high-end domestic and international markets. In October 2010, the Shikan Walnut Professional Cooperative participated in the China Green Food Expo.

　　　In accordance with the Regulations on the Protection of Geographical Indication Products, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine organized experts to review applications for the protection of geographical indication products including Pingwu walnuts, Danling frozen cakes, Mount Emei snow fungus, Fuhong apricots, and Huodong pine nuts. Upon successful review, starting from September 19, 2011, Pingwu walnuts, Danling frozen cakes, Mount Emei snow fungus, Fuhong apricots, and Huodong pine nuts were approved as protected geographical indication products, with protection to be implemented by local quality inspection authorities.
