The miraculous medicine "Dingkun Dan"
The miraculous medicine "Dingkun Dan," widely recognized as a wonder drug, is a renowned gynecological remedy produced by Shanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine Factory. Its prescription is ingeniously crafted with well-balanced ingredients. In addition to its exceptional efficacy in regulating menstruation and invigorating blood circulation, it also helps soothe qi, strengthen the spleen, nourish blood, stop bleeding, relieve pain, and build up strength. Historical records indicate that Dingkun Dan was first created during the fourth year of the Qianlong reign in the Qing Dynasty (1739 AD). At that time, the Imperial Hospital in the capital gathered famous physicians from across the country to compile the comprehensive medical text "Golden Mirror of Medicine"; it was a period when palace concubines were afflicted with blood stasis illnesses, which affected the royal family’s succession. Consequently, Emperor Qianlong issued an edict to include the treatment of such female conditions in the research efforts. Owing to the assembly of renowned doctors and collective brainstorming, a collection of rare prescriptions was gathered, integrating ingredients such as ginseng, deer antler, angelica, safflower, notoginseng, Atractylodes macrocephala, wolfberry, nutgrass galingale rhizome, and deerhorn frost into one compound. Upon clinical application, it proved consistently effective. Delighted by its success, Emperor Qianlong, inspired by the meaning of "calming and securing the female womb," named this formula-based medicine "Dingkun Dan" and designated it as an "official exclusive wonder medicine." It was so exclusive that even the then-being-compiled "Golden Mirror of Medicine" was not permitted to include it. At the time, Sun Yanjue, an imperial censor and native of Taigu, Shanxi, whose mother suffered from a long-term gynecological condition with no relief found, managed to secretly obtain the "Dingkun Dan" prescription from the Imperial Hospital and handed it to his family pharmacy, "Baoyuantang," for production. The medicine indeed cured her illness, and when later administered to other female relatives, it also yielded excellent results. Eventually, the Sun family declined, "Baoyuantang" went out of business, and the Dingkun Dan prescription was passed on to Guangshengju. Since then, this once "official exclusive wonder medicine" became a widely available and effective remedy for women’s health issues. In 1979, Dingkun Dan was named a provincial quality product by the Shanxi Provincial People’s Government, and in 1980, it was awarded the National Silver Medal. Today, this well-known gynecological medicine is sold across the nation and in more than 20 countries and regions worldwide. (Taigu)
