Sanjie Sticky Rice Cake
Made from premium glutinous rice, which is soaked in clean water until fully saturated, then steamed and pounded vigorously with a wooden pestle in a stone mortar. The resulting cake is round, glossy, and adorned with red-patterned borders. Its texture is soft, tender, and fragrant, offering a richly nourishing taste. It can be boiled, pan-fried, or deep-fried, and suits both savory and sweet preparations. A must-have traditional gift during rural New Year celebrations, almost every household prepares these cakes before the Spring Festival, the pounding sound echoing through village lanes. There is also a Qingming Sticky Rice Cake, specifically made as an offering for the Qingming Festival, hence the name. Instead of regular glutinous rice, the rice is ground into powder and mixed with dried and powdered dandelion greens (a wild leafy vegetable), filled with stuffing, shaped into rounds, steamed, and served. Its flavor is sweet and distinctive, with a unique taste.
