Shitang Ginger
Shitang Ginger is a protected geographical indication product.
"Spicy in taste, thin-skinned, tender, and crisp" are the characteristics of Shitang ginger from Quanzhou. As one of the local specialty products known as the "Three Spicy Delicacies of Quanzhou," Shitang ginger—especially the premium "Five-Finger Ginger"—sells out quickly every year upon hitting the market, and is even exported to markets both domestically (such as Hubei, Guangdong, Fujian) and internationally, including Southeast Asia.
In recent years, with the introduction of new standardized production technologies, both the yield and quality of Shitang ginger have improved, driving industrial development across the entire county of Quanzhou. This year, the ginger planting area in Quanzhou County reached 28,500 acres, with a ginger output of 120,000 tons, an average price of 6,000 yuan per ton, and a total output value of 720 million yuan. "The planting benefits in Shitang Town have improved, which has also helped promote large-scale planting of Shitang ginger in nearby towns such as Anhe, Lianghe, and Fenghuang. Growing ginger has become one of the important components of the local rural economy."
