Last updated 2026-11-08 — Bailuo japonica rice is produced in Fengshan County, located at the source of longevity in Bama within the World Geopark. With a long planting history dating back to before the Qing Dynasty, this rice is renowned for its distinctive quality. In 1962, it was designated as the official rice for use during the National People's Congress meetings. It is grown in Bailuo Village at the foot of the ancient Bagang stockade from the Song Dynasty, an area known for its high population of centenarians. The rice is cultivated in a nationally certified pollution-free (organic) paddy field production base where no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used. Instead, it relies entirely on organic manure, manual weeding, and pest control methods such as solar insect traps and duck farming in the rice paddies. Nurtured by sticky, fertile soil and irrigated with natural mountain spring water, the rice has a full growth cycle of 185 days, with plants reaching 175 cm in height. The grains are oval-shaped, yielding about 300 jin per mu, making it a rare and precious original eco-strain. The resulting rice is nutritionally balanced, rich in selenium — a vital element for health and longevity (total selenium content: 209.73 μg/kg) — and high in protein (7.53%), fatty acids, carbohydrates, vitamins B and E, biotin, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and more. This product is suitable for both steaming and cooking, and is especially excellent for congee. It has a fragrant taste, soft yet not sticky, making it an ideal health food choice for both the young and the elderly. Consuming it can improve blood circulation, strengthen the spleen and stomach, boost the immune system, promote blood flow, and thereby reduce the risk of hypertension. It also helps prevent diabetes, beriberi, age spots, and constipation, relieves thirst, combats tumors, and when used to make congee, serves as a nourishing tonic for longevity. Regular consumption can lower cholesterol and reduce the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes. The creamy layer on top of Bailuo japonica congee, known as congee oil, replenishes bodily fluids and essence, greatly benefiting the nourishment of yin fluids and kidney essence. It is especially suitable for patients, new mothers, and the elderly. This is an anti-aging specialty rice variety, revered as “life’s golden rice,” a “natural divine grain,” a promoter of longevity, and a treasured origin of life — naturally perfect. As early as the late Eastern Han Dynasty, the physician Zhang Zhongjing used japonica rice to treat illnesses. In his famous prescription Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction), japonica rice was used to tonify middle qi and support dietary therapy for gastrointestinal and kidney diseases, demonstrating the clear medicinal properties of Bailuo japonica rice.
