Cenxi Pine Rosin
The city boasts abundant pine rosin resources, characterized by high oil content and resistance to oxidation. There are 1.2 million mu of pine forests (masson pine) suitable for resin tapping in the city, and 82,000 mu of introduced slash pine from the United States since the 1960s. Before liberation, resin was collected in mountainous areas along the river where water transport was convenient and sold to the Wuzhou Rosin Factory.
After liberation, the Wuzhou Rosin Factory set up a rosin warehouse in Cenxi County Town and commissioned supply and marketing cooperatives to purchase the rosin.
All 17 towns and state-owned forest farms in the city produce pine rosin, making it a major sideline industry in the mountainous areas. The annual production of pine rosin exceeds 3,000 tons in three towns: Botang, Sanbao, and Shuiwen. Eight towns produce between 1,000 and 2,999 tons annually: Tanrong, Taiping, Malu, Jinzhu, Chengjian, Da, Limu, and Dalong. By 1972, the county’s total pine rosin output had surpassed 10,000 tons, making it one of the four key national pine rosin production bases with an annual output exceeding 10,000 tons. In recent years, with enhanced technical guidance and management of resin tapping, the area of pine forests has been expanding continuously, and pine rosin production has consistently exceeded 20,000 tons, peaking at 26,200 tons in 1989. In 1990, there emerged skilled resin tappers capable of producing 10,000 jin per person annually. That same year, Botang Town produced 3,200 tons of rosin, generating a value of 2.24 million yuan, accounting for 10.48% of the total agricultural output value.
