Nanxiang Winter Mushrooms
Nanxiang Winter Mushrooms, also known as shiitake mushrooms, are the fruiting bodies of the Pleurotus fungus. They are a major specialty of Babu District, Hezhou City, Guangxi Province. Shiitake mushrooms are the world’s second most consumed edible mushroom and one of China’s special local products, often referred to in folklore as a “mountain delicacy.” They are fungi that grow on wood. With a delicious taste and fragrant aroma, they are highly nutritious. Shiitake mushrooms are rich in B vitamins, iron, potassium, and vitamin D precursors (which convert to vitamin D upon sun exposure). They have a sweet taste and neutral nature, and are used to treat loss of appetite and symptoms of fatigue and low energy.
