They are known for their attractive shape, vibrant color, well-balanced sweetness and acidity, crisp and tender flesh, abundant juice, easy-to-separate segments, seedlessness, rich flavor, delicious taste, pleasant aroma, early ripening, and excellent storage and transportability. Hailed as the “King of Oranges,” this fruit is rich in vitamin C, trace elements, and minerals, effectively replenishing essential nutrients and hydration for the human body. Regular consumption helps lower cholesterol, break down fats, and offers benefits such as clearing heat, moistening lungs, relieving coughs, benefiting the stomach, improving bowel movements, and enhancing immune function.

To express gratitude toward mothers and further enhance the brand of Pingyuan Navel Oranges, the Meizhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government placed high importance on the matter. They decided to endow Pingyuan Navel Oranges with profound cultural significance, achieving a deep integration between traditional produce and traditional culture. In January 2012, “Pingyuan Navel Oranges” were officially renamed “Pingyuan Ci Oranges.”

Pingyuan Ci Oranges have a long cultivation history. Trial planting began in 1983, and after 1995, they were widely promoted in northern towns such as Renju, Chagan, Shangju, Bachi, and Zhongxing. In the Guangdong fruit market, Pingyuan Ci Oranges enjoy widespread fame. Represented by Pingyuan Ci Oranges, domestic oranges can now compete openly with American Sunkist oranges and have captured half of the market share, earning them the reputation as the “Sunkist of China.” The product is not only sold to major cities across the country but also exported to places like Singapore and Malaysia. It has also become the designated orange supplier for several major supermarket chains including Charoen Pokphand Group, HNA Commercial Holding Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Department Store (Group) Co., Ltd., and RT-Mart (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd.

Pingyuan Ci Oranges have successively won honors such as National Pollution-Free Agricultural Product, National Geographical Indication Protected Product, National Grade A Green Food, Most Favorite Local Specialty of the People of Guangdong, Guangdong Provincial Citrus Category Gold Award, Guangdong Provincial Regional Advantageous Agricultural Product “Most Promising Development Award,” and Lingnan Top Ten Fruits “Best Shape Award.”
