Dafeng Pills are a traditional renowned medicine produced in ancient Luzhou. They have the effects of relaxing muscles and tendons, promoting blood circulation, unblocking orifices and dispelling wind, dredging meridians, strengthening the liver and kidneys, as well as nourishing and invigorating the body. They are especially effective for back and leg pain, numbness in the limbs, hemiplegia, soreness and fatigue in the muscles and bones, and common wind-related conditions in women before and after childbirth. Many patients who had been bedridden for years were cured after taking them. In North China, Northwest China, especially in mountainous areas, they enjoy a high reputation. The prescription originated in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties and was formulated by the "Wanyitang" pharmacy based on a family-secret recipe, formed into pills using wax.

In ancient times, Emperor Yan tasted hundreds of herbs on Shangdang, not only discovering seeds for agriculture but also identifying medicinal plants and inventing medicine. The intelligent people of Shangdang, inspired by Emperor Yan, developed many highly effective traditional Chinese patent medicines through countless trials, one of which is Dafeng Pills from Lucheng. Legend has it that during the Hongzhi era of the Ming Dynasty, the Guo family of Heshe Village in Lucheng suffered from a strange disease causing back and leg pain, which did not respond to prolonged treatment. Guo Taiheng, who had some medical knowledge, conducted in-depth research and finally developed an herbal decoction formula for treating back and leg pain in the third year of the Hongzhi reign. After taking it, the results were remarkable, and it was named "Dafeng Decoction." By the Jiajing era, it was officially introduced to the market. In the late Ming Dynasty, Guo Zhongyi, a descendant, modified the decoction into pill form based on the original formula, creating the first "Wanyitang" Dafeng Pills. Dafeng Pills can relax muscles and tendons, promote blood circulation, unblock orifices and dispel wind, nourish and invigorate the body, and accelerate blood circulation. They are mainly used to treat back and leg pain, numbness in the limbs, hemiplegia, soreness and fatigue in the muscles and bones, and body-wide swelling and pain in both men and women, young and old. They are especially effective for common wind-related conditions in women before and after pregnancy and for chronic illnesses over ten years old, with even better results. According to the existing seal imprint of "Wanyitang":

Our ancestors received a divine prescription and meticulously prepared Dafeng Pills... renowned far and wide, with no other makers in the village. ... This medicine is specifically for treating back and leg pain, hemiplegia, body-wide swelling and pain, paralysis on one side, muscle spasms or lumps, the five strains and seven injuries, and crane-knee wind conditions. Both men and women taking this medicine will find it universally effective, with miraculous results.

Dafeng Pills are made from a formula of various precious Chinese herbal medicines such as black fungus, Eucommia bark, and Huai niuxi. They are processed with yellow wine, dried into powder, then formed with millet as the base and vinegar-refined into pills, following the principle of “selecting materials meticulously—never settling for less, never overusing.” Due to the miraculous efficacy of Dafeng Pills, since the Ming Dynasty, they have remained a family secret and the foundation of the Guo family's livelihood, passed down through the eldest son and never to daughters.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Guo Jinxing, the 11th-generation heir of "Wanyitang," responded to the government's call to “develop production, prosper the economy, and follow the path of cooperativization.” He brought his pharmaceutical tools to join the supply and marketing cooperative of Heshi Village, continuing to produce Dafeng Pills under the name "Wanyitang." In 1956, he joined the county cooperative. In 1957, the production of Dafeng Pills was taken over by the county supply and marketing cooperative’s medicinal materials management department, later transferred to the medicinal materials company. In 1983, it was managed by the Lucheng County Traditional Chinese Medicine Factory.

With the development of production, the making of Dafeng Pills evolved from manual operations to machine-based processes, improving quality accordingly. In 1965, approved by Document No. 159 on pharmaceutical administration from the Shanxi Provincial Health Department, the 600-year-old "Wanyitang" brand was changed to the name of a local famous mountain—Luyi Mountain. From 1979 to the present, Dafeng Pills have been recognized continuously as high-quality products of Shanxi Province, and the Luyi Mountain trademark has been awarded the title of Famous Trademark by the Shanxi Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce. In 1992, it was included in the book "Pharmacopoeial Standards of the People's Republic of China" compiled by the Pharmacopoeia Committee of the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China, ranking 10th among traditional Chinese patent medicines. The Lucheng Traditional Chinese Medicine Factory, while maintaining the traditional characteristics of Dafeng Pills, actively adopted advanced technology and launched activities for researching new drugs, modifying dosage forms, and creating premium products under the leadership of the 12th-generation heir, Guo Wuchun. In 1996, Dafeng Pills were certified by the Ministry of Domestic Trade as a “China Time-Honored Brand,” and the product was sold to Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, and other regions, receiving praise from users nationwide and enjoying high demand. On January 13, 2000, at the Third China Agricultural Products Trade Fair in Nanjing, it won the award for Most Popular Product, indicating a promising market outlook.
