Ping Shun Dahongpao Prickly Ash

Ping Shun Dahongpao Prickly Ash is a specialty of Pingshun County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province. It stands out among other varieties due to its thick rind, strong numbing flavor, high oil content, and long shelf life, earning it the top spot among prickly ash types. The county has been officially recognized by the National Ministry of Agriculture and the China Association for Science and Technology as the "Hometown of China's Dahongpao Prickly Ash."

Pingshun is one of the earliest areas in China to grow prickly ash. Historical records indicate that cultivation began here as far back as the Tang Dynasty, giving it a history of over a thousand years. During the Yuan and Ming dynasties, it was even offered as a tribute. Its dark, glossy appearance, intense fragrance, and health benefits such as warming the stomach and reducing inflammation have made it highly popular.

Renowned for its thick skin, bold numbing taste, rich oiliness, and excellent storage properties, Ping Shun Dahongpao Prickly Ash is considered the finest of its kind, often praised as having a "fragrance that drifts for ten miles." It was already a tribute to the imperial court during the Tang Dynasty. In 1997, the county was named "China's Hometown of Dahongpao Prickly Ash" by the National Ministry of Agriculture and the China Association for Science and Technology. Currently, the county cultivates prickly ash on 134,000 mu of land, yielding an annual production of 1.75 million kilograms.
